This is a six-week guided research project with a college professor. The Open Book Research Fellowship
The Open Book Research Fellowship is a six-week, one-on-one academic mentorship designed for high school students who want to produce a serious, college-level research paper.
Students work directly with a college professor to:
develop an original research question
engage with primary and secondary sources
learn academic argumentation and citation
revise through multiple drafts
produce a polished writing sample suitable for college applications
This is not a tutoring program and not a test-prep course. It is an apprenticeship in real scholarship.
Each student meets weekly with their mentor for guided feedback, discussion, and revision planning. Between meetings, students complete structured research and writing milestones.
Students who meet all program expectations may receive a personal letter of recommendation written by their professor-mentor, addressing their intellectual growth, work ethic, and readiness for college-level work.
Ideal for students who:
love reading, writing, and thinking deeply
are applying to selective colleges
want a writing sample that reflects genuine intellectual curiosity
benefit from sustained mentorship rather than one-off editing
Final deliverable:
A completed research paper (8–12 pages, depending on level) suitable for submission as a college writing sample.
